WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's men's basketball team kicked off the first official day of team practice with a two-hour session that started at 5 p.m., in preparation for the 2012-13 season.
Wichita State is led by two players who contributed as starters a year ago in senior forward Carl Hall and senior guard Demetric Williams from a team that went 27-6 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Wichita State is also coming off its two winningest seasons in history with a 29-8 record and the NIT Postseason Championship in 2010-11, and the 27-6 record that included the 2012 MVC regular-season title and an NCAA berth in the Portland, Oregon Regional.
Hall started 19-of-33 games a year ago, averaging 8.4 points and 5.0 rebounds, while Williams started 23-of-33 games, averaging 5.5 points and 2.1 assists. Senior seven-foot center Ehimen Orukpe and sophomores Jake White and Tekele Cotton also return after significant time off the bench in 2012-13.
The Shockers open the exhibition season Nov. 5 against Pittsburg State before opening the regular season Nov. 10 against North Carolina Central. Both games are 7 p.m. starts inside Charles Koch Arena.

The only three remaining times to be announced are the game at Tennessee, which is in television negotiation; the Bracketbuster Series game, which will be announced in January; and the potential MVC Wildcard television game March 2, which will be announced Feb. 8.
