Wichita State University sophomore Louis Cohen Boyer was named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for Oct. 17.
Boyer tied for ninth place at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, hosted by top-ranked Cal. The sophomore cruised through the first day of competition, scoring an eagle on his first hole and carding a 6-under 136 (70-66). He followed with an even-par 71 in the third round to claim his third top 10 finish of the fall.
His performance helped Wichita State into a tie for 6th place at the par-71, 6,718-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The tournament featured six teams in GolfStat's top 45, including No. 1 Cal. The Shockers tied with No. 36 Oregon State and finished one stroke back of No. 24 San Diego State. No. 33 UC Davis, No. 44 Fresno State, and No. 45 Oregon all placed behind WSU.
This is Boyer's first MVC Golfer-of-the-Week honor. He was named the conference Freshman of the Year last season.
