Las Cruces, N.M. -- Louis Cohen Boyer is tied for fifth and the Wichita State University men's golf team is tied for third at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, hosted by New Mexico State.
In the final fall tournament of the year for WSU, the Shockers are near the top of a closely-bunched group of leaders. UTEP leads the pack at 4-under par (280) on the 7,074-yard, par-71 New Mexico State University Golf Course. UNLV is second at 3-under while WSU and Kansas are tied for third at 1-under.
Boyer was the Shockers' top finisher last week at Cal and is the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Golfer-of-the-Week. He finished the first round at 2-under (34-35=69) to sit in a five-man tie for fifth place. UTSA's Ryan Werre leads the field at 4-under (34-33=67).
Hunter Sparks, who won the tournament last year, and Calvin Pearson are tied for 16th at even par. Rafael Becker is tied for 27th at 1-over and Tyler Gann checked in at 43rd at 3-over. Chandler Rusk, competing as an individual is tied for 16th.
The second round commences this afternoon and the third round begins Tuesday morning with a 9 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
