WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State outscored Tulsa, 48-33, in the second half to pull away from the visiting Golden Hurricane in the 122nd matchup between the two schools for an 86-60 victory Wednesday night at Charles Koch Arena.
Carl Hall and Cleanthony Early lead the way for Wichita State (7-0) on the offensive end, tallying 16 and 13 points, respectively. Hall added 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Sophomore Tekele Cotton tied a season-high with eight points and established a new career-high with seven rebounds.
Wichita State took the lead for good on a Ron Baker jumper to go up 14-12 with 9:05 left in the first half. The Shockers largest lead of the half came on a Fred VanVleet 3-pointer as time expired in the half.
The Shockers continued to expand on their lead throughout the second half getting seven points each from seniors Hall and Demetric Williams.
The Shockers forced a young Tulsa (4-3) team playing without second-leading scorer Rashad Smith into 16 turnovers, leading to 24 points. The Wichita State bench outscored Tulsa's bench, 36-13.
The Shockers now lead the all-time series, 62-60, against the Golden Hurricane.
Wichita State is in action next Sun., Dec. 2 at Air Force as part of the MVC-MWC Challenge at 4 p.m. The game will be televised on Cox Cable Kansas 22 with Bruce Haertl and Craig Steven.
