SEATTLE - Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton continues to etch her name in the Wichita State and Missouri Valley Conference record books. As she broke her own WSU and MVC record in the women's 3,000m run with a time of 9:07.21 Saturday at the Washington invitational.
Competing in a fast race with some elite collegiate and professional distance runners, Tuliamuk-Bolton placed sixth and now ranks fifth in the nation in the 3,000m run for the 2013 indoor season.
The women with the top 16 times in the race nationally will compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 8 and 9 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Tuliamuk-Bolton has posted the two best times in MVC in the women's 3,000m run. Her best time is 37 seconds faster than her closest competition.
The Kenya native eclipsed her own WSU and MVC record in the race by over four seconds at the UW Invitational.
An eight time NCAA First Team All American, she finished fourth among the college athletes in Seattle.
A group of Shockers also competed at the Jayhawk Classic in Lawrence, Kan., this weekend. Wichita State used the meet to help some its athletes gain extra experience with the MVC Championship meet coming in four weeks.
J'Lynn Ledesma placed third by clearing the bar at 5-7 ¾ in women's high jump. Cara Detmer (12-1 ½) also posted Wichita State's best mark in the pole vault this season.
Tuliamuk-Bolton and the rest of the Wichita State's Track& Field team will be back in action at the Varsity Apartments Invitational, Fri., Feb.1, and Sat., Feb. 2, in the Heskett Center.
