WICHITA, Kan.- Four Shockers had two or more RBI as the Wichita State baseball team won their series over Illinois State with a 12-2 win on Saturday night at Eck Stadium.
A.J. Ladwig got the win for Wichita State pitching 5.2 innings and allowing two runs on eight hits. Garrett Bayliff went 4-for-6 at the plate with three RBI. Eric Harbutz went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
The Shockers started the game off on the right foot, batting around in the lineup in the bottom of the first inning to score five runs. Garrett Bayliff and Johnny Coy got their team started with two singles and Tyler Baker plated Bayliff from second with a single of his own through the left side. Then, after Erik Harbutz walked, Micah Green and Dayne Parker hit back-to-back base hits to plate Coy and Baker, respectively. Later in the inning, Wichita State added another run when a pitch hit Cody Bobbit with the bases loaded in his second at-bat of the inning.
A Harbutz double in the second inning scored Coy, and Bayliff tacked on two more in the third on another double that plated Parker and Joe Haddox to put Wichita State up 8-0.
The Redbirds finally got on the board in the sixth inning. A double down the left field line Eric Aguilera scored Zac Johnson, and then Illinois State plated another run on a RBI groundout from Mike Hollenbeck to cut the Wichita State lead to 8-2.
After Bayliff reached on a fielding error and Coy hit a single to right field, Tyler Baker single to score Bayliff. Harbutz hit his second double of the day in the next at-bat to score Coy and put Wichita State up 10-2.
Dayne Parker scored on a Haddox double in the bottom of the eighth and Bayliff ended the game on a single to score Haddox.
The Shockers will start a two game series with Arizona State on Tuesday, April 2 at Eck Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
