BSB: Shocker Pitching Gives Up One Hit in 8-0 Win

WICHITA, Kan. – Garrett Brummett pitched five shutout innings, giving up one hit and striking out five as the Shocker pitching staff combined to throw a one-hit shutout in a 8-0 win against Oral Roberts on Wednesday night. Austin Sanders, Zach Beringer, and Tobin Mateychick relieved Brummett for the remainder of the game and continued the pitching gem for the Shockers. The three relief pitchers combined to throw four innings without surrendering a hit to the Golden Eagles.

Garrett Bayliff’s two out two RBI single in the second inning scored Tanner Kirk and Mikel Mucha to give Wichita State an early 3-0 lead. Erik Harbutz scored the first run of the game after crossing the plate on a wild pitch prior to Bayliff’s double.

Wichita State added runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-0 lead. Tyler Baker led off the third inning with a triple off the right field wall and scored after Harbutz grounded into a double play. In the fifth, Tanner Dearman singled to center that scored Joe Haddox to give the Shockers a 5-0 lead after four innings.

Baker led off the fifth inning with his second triple of the game and scored on a Johnny Coy sacrifice fly to deep center field. Harbutz singled after Coy’s sacrifice fly and stole second before coming around and scoring on Tanner Kirk’s RBI double to left field giving Wichita State a 7-0 lead.

Daniel Kihle walked in the eighth inning and scored on Bayliff’s third single of the game to give the Shockers the final margin of victory, 8-0.

The Shockers travel to Carbondale, Ill. for a weekend series with Southern Illinois. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.
