PINEHURST, N.C. - In her first tournament playing in the No. 1 spot, junior Adin Stromgren led the Shockers with an even par opening round to tie for fourth while helping the Shockers finish day one in fifth place.
The Shockers recorded a 307 as a team on Monday, finishing just three strokes behind fourth-place Western Kentucky.
"We battled and overall It wasn't a great round, but Adin played solid," Head coach Tom McCurdy said. "We probably could've taken a few shots off of our score today and we will work hard to do that tomorrow."
Freshman Gretchen Huhnerkoch followed close behind Stromgren with a 75 (+3) on Monday morning to set her up for round two tied for 15th. Fellow rookie Natalie Samb notched a 79 (+7) to tie her for 33rd while junior Lauren Hassell shot an 81 (+9) to end the afternoon tied for 45th.
Freshman Hannah Martin rounded out the Shocker lineup with an 83 (+11) to tie for 53rd heading into round two. The Shockers do not have individuals playing in the tournament.
The final round of the Pinehurst Classic will begin Tuesday morning with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
