NEW ORLEANS -- Following a fifth straight Missouri Valley Conference title the Wichita State University women's cross country team is ranked
eighth in the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches
Association (USTFCCA) coaches poll, announced on Monday, Nov. 2.
The Shockers remain eighth after being a preseason 10th pick in the
coaches poll. WSU cruised a fifth straight conference crown thanks to the trio of Tonya Nero, Naomi Kosgei and Leah Thompson. Nero was the first Shocker across the line in third place with Kosgei right on her heels in fourth. Thompson was the third Shocker in the top 10 with all three being honored as an all-conference selection following the meet. Wichita State head coach Marc Burns also collected his fourth straight MVC women's coach of the year award.
The
Shockers are the top ranked Missouri Valley Conference team with
Illinois State (11th), Bradley (12th), Missouri State (14th) and
Southern Illinois (15th) also ranking in the top 15 in the region.
Wichita State will now travel to Springfield, Mo., for the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 14.
