OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The USTA Missouri Valley section announced that Nick Taylor, Shocker men's tennis volunteer assistant coach, will be inducted into the 2009 Hall of Fame class.
This year, the USTA Missouri Valley will recognize three people who have served the game of tennis through their play, dedication to volunteerism and their passion for improving the game. Taylor joins Skip Walther (Columbia, Mo.) and the late Sheldon Weiner (Rock Island, Ill.) in the 2009 induction class. The three new members of the Missouri Valley Section Hall of Fame bring the total number of members to 95.
"It's a great honor to be included on a list with all of the talented players that have already been inducted," Taylor said.
The honorees will be inducted during the Missouri Valley Annual
Conference and Awards Luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at the
Sheraton Hotel in Overland Park, Kan., a ceremony Taylor was humbly surprised to be a part of.
"When I first got the letter, I was so surprised," Taylor said. "I thought someone was messing with me."
Taylor was also named USTA's Kansas District Adult Player of the Year for the Missouri Valley section. He will be in action again from Nov. 17-22 at the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Singles Masters Tournament in Amsterdam. He will take a brief break as he heads to Italy for the Camozzi Wheelchair Tennis Doubles Masters Tournament from Nov. 25-29 in Italy.
