Shocks Take Down Aces, 3-1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Wichita State won its 20th match of the season with a 3-1 victory over Evansville. The Shockers (20-4, 11-3) won by scores of 21-25, 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19.
Emily Stockman had 19 kills and 14 digs to lead the Shockers while Kim Wadsworth had a career-high 15 kills. Mary Elizabeth Hooper collected 56 assists and Melissa Granville had 19 digs.
The teams raced out to a 9-9 tie in the first set and the Aces took a 12-10 lead after a WSU service error. A service ace by Emily Stockman put the Shocks in front 16-15, but UE slowly pulled away and won the set 25-21.
The second set went back-and-forth early until three-straight kills by Stockman gave WSU a 15-10 lead. A block by Sarah McGee and Amanda Backes increased the lead to 19-11 and WSU won the set 25-13.
The teams traded points early in the third set until back-to-back kills by Kim Wadsworth put the Shocks up 12-8. A kill by McGee increased the advantage to 18-13 and the Shockers closed out the set 25-17 with a kill by Katie Niggemeyer.
The Aces grabbed a 10-7 lead in the fourth set with a kill and increased the lead to 14-10 with a block. The Shockers came back to tie the score at 16 and took the lead 17-16 with a kill by Stockman. WSU never trailed in the set again and won 25-19.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Nov. 13 against Bradley at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
