WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State (4-2) offense struggled all night, shooting just 31-percent from the floor, and Northern Colorado (3-4) came away with a 65-54 win Friday night inside Charles Koch Arena.

Marisah Henderson led the Shockers with 11 points, while Morgan Boyd and Jessica Diamond each added 10.

Whitley Cox led all scorers with 19 points. Courtney Stoermer, Lara Merritt and Lauren Oosdyke all reached double figures for UNC.

The Bears took the early lead with an 8-1 run, fueled by six points from Stoermer. WSU's first basket came at the 16:04 mark when Boyd rebounded her own miss and scored to start a 9-0 run for the Shockers.

Marisah Henderson knocked down a three-pointer while Sheena Johnson and Diamond scored to give the Shockers their first lead of the night, 10-8. Neither team could find much of an offensive rhythm as both defenses turned the pressure up.

UNC was able to climb back and take a 22-18 lead with 6:32 to play in the half thanks to an 8-1 run that included five-straight points from Merritt. After cold shooting for most of the first half, Henderson and Dannah Kemp connected from behind the arc to tie the score, 26-26, at the half.

WSU struggled from the floor in the first half, shooting just 28-percent. The Shockers stayed in the game by forcing nine UNC turnovers and holding the Bears to 34-percent shooting.

The teams continued to trade baskets to start the second half. The score was tied at 38 when Victoria Timm and Stoermer hit back-to-back threes to give UNC its largest lead of the game, 44-38, with 11:12 to play.

UNC would, however, build on that lead. After Diamond hit a layup and three-pointer, the Bears went on a 14-4 run over the next six and a half minutes of play to take a 58-45 lead.

Boyd and Henderson scored a quick seven points for the Shockers in the final minute, but UNC iced the game away at the free-throw line.

WSU hits the road and will face Kent State on Dec. 8. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game can be heard on KNSS 1330.
