LARAMIE, Wyo.- The Wichita State women's tennis team fell to the No. 62 Wyoming Cowgirls, 5-2, at the UW Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Shockers would go down a point early when they lost two out of three of the doubles matches. Simona Synkova and Veronica Popovici defeated Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova, 8-3, Sasa Nemcova and Alexandra Kovacs defeated Lutfiana Budiharto and Carla Venticinque, 8-6, and Montse B. Fernandez and Delia Damaschin defeated Jessica Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova, 9-7.
The Shocks would gain their only two points of the match in the singles competition. Delia Damaschin defeated Alexandra Kovacs, 7-5, 6-4 and Carla Venticinque defeated Silviya Zhelyazkova, 7-6, 6-3. Wichita State would lose the rest of their singles matches to drop the match.
"At a few spots we didn't play and compete our way through the tough conditions," said head coach Colin Foster. "We were playing from behind a little too much which is a tough task against a good, well-coached team."
The Shockers will look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to Denver, Colo. to take on Denver at 1 p.m.
