ARLINGTON, Tex.- The No. 63 Shocker women's tennis team defeated the Mavericks of Texas-Arlington, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at the UTA Tennis Center. The win moves the Shockers record to 10-5 on the season.
Wichita State would go up a point early by capturing the doubles point from the Mavericks. The two teams split the first two matches, but in the number three spot, Veronika Blaskova and Montse B. Fernandez defeated Verena Scott and Christine Foote, 8-3, to put the Shockers up 1-0.
In the singles competition, the Shocker women would take the first match when Veronika Blaskova defeated Christine Foote, 6-0, 6-4. The Mavericks would not go away though, winning the next three contests to up 3-2 for the match. Then, Carla Venticinque took down Nikola Matovicova from Texas-Arlington, 7-6, 6-2, and to seal the match for the Shockers, No. 108 Lutfiana Budiharto defeated M. Martinez-Romero, 6-4, 7-5.
The Shocker women are back in action on Thursday in Dallas, Texas to take on Southern Methodist University. The match starts at 1 p.m.
