WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State women's tennis team will head to the Drake Invite, Sept. 14-16 at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
It will be the first tournament of the season for the Shockers, who will look to build off the success of last season. A strong returning junior class of Montse Blasco Fernandez, Veronika Blaskova, Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul and Carla Venticinque will look to lead the Shocker women. Also returning is Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year from 2012, Lucia Kovalova.
Blaskova and Kovalova will be looking to start the season off on the right foot after being ranked as the No. 32 doubles team in the nation last week by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in their preseason rankings.
The Shockers also welcome three freshman newcomers to the team for the season. Rebecca Pedrazzi, Masa Smic, and Summer Schlotterback will look to add depth to the Shocker lineup.
Creighton, Iowa State, Nebraska-Omaha, North Dakota, Northern Illinois and South Dakota will join the Shocker women at the tournament.
A recap will be posted on GoShockers.com after each day of competition.
