DES MOINES, Iowa- The Wichita State women's tennis team completed their first day of competition at the Drake Fall Invitational on Friday night at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. Friday's competition consisted of doubles play.
In flight A play, junior Montse Blasco Fernandez and freshman Rebecca Pedrazzi teamed up to get into the finals of the bracket. In the first round, they defeated Sam Anderson and Jennie Hartjes of Creighton, 8-5. In the semifinals, they took down Arantza De La Torre and Nelle Youel of Northern Illinois, 8-3. The duo would fall in the finals however, 8-3, to the Drake team of Jordan Eggleston and Klavdija Rebol.
The freshman combination of Summer Schlotterback and Masa Smic played well in their first match as Shockers. They defeated Mary Malkin and Ilse Pacheco of Northern Illinois, 8-6, in flight B play. The pair then fell in the next round to Mariel Ante and Evy Van Genechten of Drake, 8-2.
The Shocker women will start singles play on Saturday morning.
