WICHITA, Kan. - Junior Ashley Andrade was named the WSU Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 3, 2012.Ashley Andrade led the Shockers to NCAA Tournament wins over Arkansas and No. 20 Kansas to advance to the first Sweet Sixteen in school history. She averaged 4.56 kills, 0.22 aces, 0.67 digs, 1.56 blocks and 5.56 points per set, while hitting .507 in the two matches.
In the five-set comeback against Arkansas in the first round, she had a match-high and career-high 23 kills on 39 swings with just one error for a .564 hitting percentage. She also added two assists, three digs and five blocks. She collected three kills in the first set, six in the second, five in the third, six in the fourth and three in the fifth.
In the four-set win against No. 20 Kansas, she had a match-high 18 kills on 32 swings and a .438 hitting percentage. She also had two assists, two service aces, three digs and a career-high nine block assists. She had seven kills in the first set, five in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth.
She set school NCAA Tournament records for kills in a match with 23 against Arkansas, for block assists in a match with nine against Kansas and for points in a match with 25.5 against Arkansas.
Her 23 kills against Arkansas were also the most by a Shocker middle blocker since Elizabeth Meyers had 23 against Bradley on Nov. 14, 2003.
Andrade and the Shockers are next in action on Fri., Dec. 7 against No. 4 USC.
