Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
A middle blocker for the Wichita State volleyball team, Field, a junior from Windsor, California, helped the Shockers to two NCAA Tournament victories against Arkansas (3-2 on November 30) and 20th-ranked Kansas (3-1 on December 1) at Lawrence, Kansas.
A two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete choice and a two-time all-conference selection, Field, who has a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average in chemistry, averaged 3.00 kills and 0.56 blocks while hitting .400 in nine sets. Versus Kansas, Field, who had seven kills on seven attempts in the third set, compiled 13 kills and a .619 attack percentage -- a school record for an NCAA Tournament match.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
