Peoria, Ill. -  The Wichita State University women's basketball team hit its first eight shots from the floor, never trailed in the game, and held on for a 62-58 victory at Bradley Thursday night.  With the win, WSU improved to 2-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference to tie for first place.

Jody Adams earned her 100th career coaching victory in her sixth season as a head coach.  Seventy-six of those wins have come at Wichita State.

Kelsey Jacobs went for a career-high 14 points to match Jessica Diamond for the team's scoring lead.  The Shockers shot .448 from the field and connected on all five free throw attempts.  Bradley shot .375 and made just four of 18 three-point attempts (.222).

The Shockers used a 9-0 run, capped by a Michelle Price steal and transition layup, early in the second half to build a 47-31 advantage.  The lead remained in double figures after a Jasmine Jones stick-back with 11:20 to go.

Bradley pulled within two after a pair of free throws from Kelsey Budd with 5:01 left, making it 58-56.  Budd ended with a game-high 18 points for the Braves.  The teams combined for just six more points the rest of the way.

Michaela Dapprich hit two free throws in a one-and-one situation and Jacobs scored a lay-in with 2:03 left that proved to be the final basket.  Wichita State held Bradley scoreless over the final 2:25, including four missed shots in the final 22 seconds.

The Shockers jumped out to a 17-7 lead after sinking its first eight field goals and built the lead to 24-9 with 9:45 to go in the first half.  Bradley made an 8-0 run following a timeout but WSU held on for a seven-point lead at the break, 34-27.  Diamond poured in 10 first-half points and Chynna Turner added nine off 4-for-5 shooting.

The Shockers wrap up this road swing with a 7:05 p.m. tipoff at Northern Iowa on Saturday.  The next home game is Sat., Jan. 19 against preseason conference-favorite Creighton.
