MTen: Shocks End Play at MVC Individuals

DES MOINES, Iowa- Matheus Pereira and Alvaro Gutierrez were unable to come away victorious in the championship matches they competed in, as play ended on Sunday at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

Pereira, playing in the flight one singles championship, fell to No. 68 James McKie of Drake, 6-3, 6-1. Gutierrez, a sophomore from Madrid, Spain, was defeated by Jean Erasmus of Drake, 6-4, 6-2, in the flight four championship.

The two then paired up to defeat Muddappa Appanervanda and Rolondo Torrellas of Illinois State, 8-6, before falling in the championship of the flight two doubles bracket to Robin Goodman and Jean Erasmus of Drake, 8-6.

The Shockers will have a quick turnaround, as they start their team season on Tuesday, January 22 when they travel to Norman, Okla. for a match against No. 8 Oklahoma. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
