Hunter Sparks was named the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week after his strong performance in the season opener at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational.
Sparks saved his best round for last and charged into a tie for fifth at the UTSA/Oak Hills Invitational last Tuesday. The senior shot a 4-under 67 in the third round to finish at even par (74-72-67). His eagle on hole 10 in the third round not only helped him to a top-five finish individually, it also helped Wichita State take fourth, placing behind three other nationally-ranked schools (Oklahoma, No. Texas, and Baylor). Sparks' 213 score at the par-71/6,765-yard Oak Hills Country Club was the seventh time in his career he's recorded a score that low in a 54-hole tournament. His fifth-place finish was his 11th career top-10 mark and seventh career top-5 placing.
The weekly honor is the sixth of his career.
