HONOLULU, Hawaii – Wichita State dropped the second game of a five-game series to Hawaii, 7-3.
Erik Harbutz and Garrett Bayliff each had two hits for the Shockers, while Tyler Baker had two hits and two RBI. Starter Zach Beringer took the loss. He pitched four innings and gave up six runs on eight hits with four walks and one strikeout.
The Rainbows used a two-out rally to score in the second inning. Kalei Hanawahine doubled with two outs and scored on a single from Trevor Podratz to give UH a 1-0 lead.
Hawaii increased the lead in the third inning. Zach Beringer walked the first two batters of the inning and after a sacrifice bunt, Beringer intentionally walked Marc Flores to load the bases. With two outs, Conner George singled to left field to score two and give the Rainbows a 3-0 lead.
The Shockers answered in the fourth. Casey Gillaspie doubled to right-center to lead off the inning and scored on a single from Tyler Baker. The Shockers would score another run on a double play ball to cut the lead to 3-2.
Back-to-back doubles to lead off the fifth gave UH a 4-2 lead and two more singles in the inning would increase the lead to 6-2.
Mikel Mucha led off the seventh with a single to centerfield and scored on a two-out single from Baker to cut the lead to 6-3.
UH added a run in the eighth for the final score of 7-3.
