Cape Girardeau, Mo. – The Wichita State University men’s golf team begins its quest for a sixth-consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Championship Monday at Dalhousie Country Club.  The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday to complete the championship.

After a early fog lifted Monday morning, weather is expected to be ideal in Cape Girardeau.  The course is playing at 7,175 yards and is a par-72 course designed by the Nicklaus Group.  Wichita State won the 2009 MVC Championship at Dalhousie.

The Shockers have won the last five and 10 of the last 15 conference championships.  Wichita State golfers account for five of the top six spots in the league in stroke average, with MVC Player of the Year candidate Hunter Sparks leading the circuit at 71.76.  Last year’s Player of the Year, Rafael Becker, is third at 72.50 and sophomore Louis Cohen Boyer ranks second at 72.32.

MVC coaches unanimously picked WSU to win the tournament, with Illinois State and Missouri State picked second and third, respectively.
