ST. LOUIS- The Missouri Valley Conference announced Wednesday that Shockers Austin Bahner, and Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton earned MVC Athlete of the Week Honors.

Bahner won the MVC  men’s Field Athlete of the Week Award after a strong performance at the Arkansas Team Championship. The Wichita native has now earned this honor twice in his career. He last won the award on March 27, 2012.

The junior ran, threw, and jumped his way to the second best decathlon score in Shocker history and the top mark in the Valley this season. Bahner scored 7,449 points at the Arkansas Team Invitational to move into 12th place nationally. He leads his closest competition in the Valley by 50 points.

Bahner won the MVC Heptathlon Championship during the indoor season. If he can claim victory in the decathlon at the conference, meet he would be the first Shocker to sweep both multi championships since Paul Speer in 2004.

An NCAA Second-Team All-American during the indoor season, Bahner’s score will likely qualify him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He set a personal best of 15.57 in the 110m hurdles during the meet.

Tuliamuk-Bolton earned the MVC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the 13th time in her career. The senior ran the fifth fastest 10,000m time in NCAA History. (32:07.20) at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational. 

The Kenya native also shattered her own Missouri Valley Conference and Wichita State record in the 10,000m run. Proving that she continues to get better, Tuliamuk-Bolton shaved 32 seconds off of her previous personal best.

Tuliamuk-Bolton’s time ranks third in the NCAA this season. An 11-time MVC champion, Tuliamuk-Bolton leads the rest of Valley by 2:22.10 in the 10,000m run.

The senior also smashed her own MVC Outdoor 5,000m record earlier this season, crossing the finish line at 15:18.86. She leads her closest conference competition in this event by 1:27.59.

Currently, Tuliamuk- Bolton holds four conference records and five Wichita State records. She has earned NCAA First-Team All-American honors 11 times in her decorated career.

Both Bahner and Tuliamuk-Bolton will try to win another conference title at the MVC Outdoor Championships. The conference meet will be held in Des Moines, Iowa May 10-12.
