WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State men’s tennis team finished the 2012-13 season ranked No. 7 in the ITA Central Region rankings that were released this summer.
The Shockers finished the season with a berth into the NCAA Tournament. They captured the berth by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship, defeating No. 27 Drake, 4-3 in the finals. It was Wichita State’s second MVC title under head coach Brad Louderback.
Sophomore Erick Reyes came in at No. 12 in the ITA Central Region singles rankings. Reyes led Wichita State in victories on the season with a record of 21-5. He also gathered MVC All-Conference honors at the No. 6 position, going undefeated in conference play.
Senior Matheus Pereira also earned a spot in the regional rankings, coming in at No. 20. Pereira finished his final season as a Shocker with a record of 18-11. He was named to the MVC All-Select Team, going 4-1 in conference play.
Pereira was also ranked regionally in doubles play, as he and his partner Tin Ostojic ranked No. 9 in the region. Playing at No. 1 doubles for much of the spring, the duo finished the season with a record of 20-3. With their perfect 5-0 conference record, Perera and Ostojic were named to the MVC All-Conference Team at No. 1 doubles.
Reyes, along with doubles partner Ilija Cuic came in at No. 10 in the regional doubles rankings. The pair finished the season with a doubles mark of 9-2.
