MANHATTAN, Kan.- Sophomore Rebecca Pedrazzi completed her perfect weekend in singles play at the Kansas State Invitational, defeating Dimitra Stavrianakou of UMKC in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 on Sunday at the Mike Goss Tennis Stadium.

Pedrazzi, the reigning Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year went 3-0 at the No.1 position on the weekend to capture the singles championship. Julia Schiller, Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul and Abby Stevens won all competition on the weekend, going 6-0. Montse Blasco Fernandez also went a perfect 3-0 in singles play.

Kansas City vs. Wichita State

Rebecca Pedrazzi (WSU) def. Dimitra Stavrianakou (KC), 6-1, 6-1

Julia Schiller (WSU) def. Raquel Argenal (KC), 6-2, 6-0

Abby Stevens (WSU) def. Amelie Amsallem (KC), 6-3, 6-3

Montse Blasco-Fernandez (WSU) def. Maddie Schulte (KC), 6-1, 6-0

Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul (WSU) def. Gaby Pintos (KC), 6-1, 6-0

Linda Ammar-Mouhoub (KC) def. Whitley Quan (WSU), 6-4, 6-1

Head coach Colin Foster was happy with his team’s play in their first tournament of the season.

“It was a strong performance for our first competition of the season,” Foster said. “We were able to try some different doubles combinations and get stronger.”

In singles, the ladies played with a strong competitive edge, especially in several three-set victories against Kansas State. We’re excited to get back to work and build on this weekend.”

Abby Stevens will next head to the ITA All-Americans in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 28. The rest of the team will be in action next at the Missouri Valley Conference Championships October 4-6 in St. Louis.
