WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State volleyball team defeated Drake 3-0 on Friday night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers won by scores of 25-23, 25-17 and 25-13.
Ashley Andrade led the Shocker attack with 10 kills. Chelsey Feekin added 13 assists and Dani Mostrom had 11 digs.
On back-to-back kills by Ashlyn Driskill and Sam Sanders, the Shockers took an early 8-3 lead in the first set. Drake would not let Wichita State take control however and were able to get back into the set on two consecutive attacking errors by the Shockers that put their lead at 16-13. Later in the set, with the score tied at 19, a service error by the Bulldogs and a kill by Katie Reilly put Wichita State up two and they went on to win the set, 25-23.
The two teams traded points early in the second set until the Shockers went on a 4-0 run capped by a service ace from Reilly that put Wichita State up 14-9 and forced a Drake timeout. Two straight kills from Feekin stretched the Shocker lead to 19-12, and Wichita State won the second set 25-17 on a kill by Driskill.
The Shockers took control of the third set, jumping out to a 16-5 lead. Back-to-back kills by Driskill and Reilly pushed the lead to 20-7, and Wichita State won the set 25-13.
The Shockers will take on Northern Iowa on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
