WICHITA, Kan. – Northern Iowa defeated Wichita State 3-0 in front of 4,123 fans inside Charles Koch Arena. The Panthers won by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23.
Ashley Andrade and Ashlyn Driskill each had nine kills for the Shockers, while Chelsey Feekin had 29 assists and Jordan Hinkle, Dani Mostrom and Alyssa Carney each had nine digs.
UNI jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set, but a kill from Chelsey Feekin cut the lead to 6-5. A service ace from Dani Mostrom tied it at nine and a kill from Ashlyn Driskill gave the Shocks a 12-11 lead. The two teams traded points until back-to-back Shocker blocks put WSU in front 17-15. A kill by Sam Sanders increased the lead to 20-17, but UNI answered with 4-0 run to take a 21-20 lead. The Shockers tied it at 21 with a kill from Ashley Andrade, but the Panthers closed out the set on a 4-2 run to win 25-23.
The Panthers raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second set, but the Shockers used a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 6-5. UNI increased the lead to 14-9 with a block and won the set 25-21.
UNI again took an early lead with a 7-3 advantage in the third set and increased the lead to 11-6 with a kill. A Driskill kill cut the lead to 13-10 and another one made the score 14-12. A block for Feekin and Elizabeth Field pulled the Shocks to within 15-14 and two-straight kills for Katie Reilly tied the score at 17. A kill for Sanders gave the Shocks a 21-20 lead and the teams traded points until UNI won the match 25-23.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Nov. 1 at Evansville at 7 p.m.
