ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Three WSU cross country student-athletes were named to the 2013 MVC XC Scholar-Athlete Teams, the Valley announced on Tuesday.
Sophomore Brady Johnson was the only Shocker to be named to the men’s Scholar-Athlete team, while senior Samantha Shukla, and junior Ebeissa Nyandwi were named to the women’s Scholar-Athlete team.
This is Shukla’s fourth time being named to the women’s Scholar-Athlete team, and the second time this year. She was previously named to the team in 2011, 2012, and this past spring. For Johnson and Nyandwi, this is their first time.
In order to qualify, runners must finish among the first 20 runners at the conference championship and hold at least a cumulative 3.2 GPA, and be a sophomore in athletic and academic standing.
At the 2013 MVC XC Championships last weekend at the Blank Park Golf Course in Des Moines, Iowa, Johnson placed 13th in the men’s 8K championship with a time of 24:58.5. Shukla placed 10th with a time of 17:53.8, and Nyandwi finished 14th with a time of 17:58 in the women’s 5K championship.
The Shockers return to action on Nov. 15 when they head to the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa. For more information on the Shocker cross country teams, visit goshockers.com.
