Shocker Total Person Program
Wichita State University through its Total Person Program is committed to providing an environment for the student-athlete to be successful athletically, academically, and socially.
Each component of the Total Person Program focuses on the student-athlete achieving a balanced life that encompasses academic excellence, athletic achievement, personal well being, and helps the student-athlete become the best Total Person they can be!
The program provides many opportunities throughout the student-athletes career to achieve their potential in the following areas:
Academic Excellence
To support the academic progress of the student-athlete toward intellectual development and graduation, the Shocker Total Person Program teaches study skills, computer skills, academic mentor programs, and addresses learning disabilities and academic assessments for student-athletes, helping all students be the very best they can be academically.
To build philosophical foundations for the development of athletic programs that are broad-based, equitable and dedicated to the well-being of the student-athlete, the Shocker Total Person Program focuses on providing state-of-the art facilities, excellent student-athlete health care, and opportunity for student-athletes to compete at the highest level in the Missouri Valley Conference and nationally.
To support the development of a well-balanced lifestyle for student-athletes and encourage emotional well-being, personal growth and decision-making skills, the Shocker Total Person Program teaches goal setting, time management, drug education, diversity awareness, communication skills and additional components of developing life long skills.
To encourage the student-athlete to develop and pursue career and life goals, the Shocker Total Person Program focuses on resume preparation, career networking, cooperative educational programs, internship programs, and career interest assessments.
To engage student-athletes in service to their campus and surrounding communities, the Shocker Total Person Program encompasses community service training, public speaking engagements, pen pal programs and various additional opportunities to give back to the city of Wichita.
