TULSA, Okla. - The Wichita State University track and field team will lift the lid on its outdoor season this weekend at the Tulsa Duels in Tulsa, Okla.
The Shocker women enter the outdoor season on a quest to defend its reign of four-straight Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships dating back to 2004. The women's team returns three individual champions from last years outdoor title team including
Mica Land (3000-meter Steeplechase),
Jennifer Snyder (100m Hurdles), and
Erica Evans (Javelin).
The Shocker men placed third at the outdoor conference meet in 2007, and also return three individual champions.
Girts Azis won the 1500m, while throwers
Kyle Becker (Javelin) and
DePaul Brewer (Discus) each earn top spots.
The meet will be held at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium on the campus of the University of Tulsa. The first event is scheduled to begin on Friday at 4 p.m. with the men's and women's hammer throw. Only the hammer throw will take place on Friday and it will be on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., while the rest of the meet will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in Tulsa.
