WICHITA --  Charlie Lowell threw seven innings of scoreless baseball while Don Lambert provided all the firepower Wichita State University needed as the Shockers took game one of a three-game set with Indiana State, 1-0, Friday evening.

The win boosts the Shockers' record to 31-23 overall on the season and 10-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference.  Indiana State falls to 24-23, 6-10 in the conference.

Lowell was able to hold the Sycamores to two hits through seven innings of work, striking out nine Indiana State batters.  The Sycamores were able to work the count on Lowell, reaching base six times via a free pass, but the Shocker defense was able to respond, turning two double plays.

Tyler Coughenour and Lambert each went 2-for-4 from the plate for WSU.

Lambert, who had stroked a single through the left-side of the infield in the seventh inning, took the 3-1 offering from ISU pitcher Chris Machado to right-center field, scoring Coughenour from second with the game's only run.

Chris O'Brien extended his hitting streak to 19 games in the first inning on a single to right-field.

Cale Elam finished out the game for the Shockers, holding the Sycamores to one hit over two innings of work to pick up his third win of the season.

Game two between these two teams will take place on Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m.
