SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State used five runs in the second inning to defeat Wichita State 7-4 in the Bobcat Invitational.
Junior Ryan Hege went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and sophomore Micah Green went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double.
Freshman pitcher A.J. Ladwig pitched 5.1 innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits with no walks and a strikeout in a no decision. Starter Mitch Mormann took the loss.
The Shockers struck first in the top of the second. Ryan Hege doubled to left field with one out and scored on a double to centerfield by Micah Green.
Texas State answered with five runs in the bottom of the second. The Bobcats used three walks and three hits to chase starter Mitch Mormann.
WSU was able to cut the lead to 5-3 with two runs in the sixth. The Shocks used an RBI single from Dayne Parker and a sacrifice fly from Walker Davidson to score the two runs.
The Bobcats tacked on an unearned run in the seventh to take a 6-3 lead and a home run from Jeff McVaney in the eighth made the score 7-3. The Shockers scored an unearned run in the ninth on an RBI groundout from Erik Harbutz for the final 7-4 score.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., Feb. 21 at Oral Roberts at 3 p.m.
