PEORIA, Ill. – A three run ninth inning rally tied the game at 6-6 to force extra innings and Garrett Bayliff’s RBI double started a four run tenth inning as Wichita State stole game two from the Braves, 10-6. Tyler Baker led the offensive attach for the Shockers going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Brandon Peterson earned the win, pitching the ninth and tenth inning, striking out three and allowing one hit.
Micah Green walked to lead off the second inning for the Shockers and advanced to second on a throwing error from Bradley starter Brent Stong. Sean Moore then singled down the first base line that scored Green and Wichita State took a 1-0 lead.
Bradley quickly answered back in the bottom half of the second inning when Greg Partyka singled to right and advanced to third on an Austin Jarvis double. Shocker starter A.J. Ladwig balked letting Partyka score and Jarvis move up to third. A RBI double from Tyler Leffler scored Jarvis and put Bradley in front 2-1 after two innings.
The Shockers threatened to take the lead in the fifth after Tyler Baker and Cody Bobbit singled to put runners at the corners with one out. But Bradley’s Stong got out of the jam after a strikeout and a line out to Garrett Bayliff and Erik Harbutz.
The Braves extended their lead to 5-1 that was highlighted by a two out two-RBI double from Max Murphy. Bradley scored three runs on two hits and took advantage of two walks to take a four run lead.
Wichita State loaded the bases in the sixth after three consecutive singles from Casey Gillaspie, Moore, and Mikel Mucha. Baker then singled to right that scored Gillaspie cutting the Braves lead to 5-2. Parker Zimmerman followed Baker with a sacrifice fly scoring Moore and the Shockers were within two runs, 5-3.
Greg Partyka homered in the eighth inning to give Braves a three run lead heading into the ninth.
Wichita State rallied in the ninth after Cody Bobbit led off with a walk and stole second. Green doubled down the left field line that scored Bobbit making the score, 6-4. Gillaspie then drew his 42nd walk of the season and advanced to second after a successful double steal. A wild pitch on ball four to Mucha allowed Green to score and another wild pitch to Baker let pinch runner Taylor Doggett score and force extra innings.
In the 10th inning, Garret Bayliff doubled to deep right field that scored Bobbit from first to give the Shockers a 7-6 lead in the extra frame. Green walked and Johnny Coy singled in Bayliff for a two run cushion, 8-6. Mucha then singled up the middle that brought home Green and Baker’s single scored Coy as the Shockers put up four runs in the extra frame to take a 10-6 lead.
Bradley would load the bases in the bottom half of the tenth inning but a fly out to deep right field ended the game and gave the Shockers the 10-6 victory.
Wichita State improves to 20-16 overall and 6-2 in the MVC and Bradley falls to 11-18 overall, 1-7 in conference play
The two teams will conclude their three game series tomorrow, April 14 at 1 p.m
