WICHITA, Kan. – Chris O’Brien’s four RBI powered the Shockers (14-6) to a 10-2 win over Air Force (11-11) in front of 3,289 fans at Eck Stadium.
O’Brien finished 3-for-4 with a home run and a walk. Preston Springer went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a double, while Kevin Hall went 2-for-4 and Johnny Coy went 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Charlie Lowell (4-2) earned the win going 5.2 innings and giving up two runs on two hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
The Shockers jumped on the board in the first. With one out, Kevin Hall dropped a ball into shallow right field for a double and he scored after the right fielder threw the ball away. After a walk to Preston Springer, Chris O’Brien homered to left center to give the Shocks a 3-0 lead.
WSU added on two more in the third after leading off the inning with four-straight singles.
Air Force cut the lead to 5-1 with a solo home run from Nathan Carter in the fourth inning. RBI singles from Springer and O’Brien in the fourth increased the lead to 7-1 and an RBI groundout from Walker Davidson in the fifth inning gave WSU an 8-1 lead.
The Falcons scored a run with two outs in the sixth, but the Shockers answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth for a 9-2 lead.
Springer doubled in Davidson in the seventh for the final score of 10-2.
The Shockers and Falcons conclude their two-game series on Wed., March 23 at 2 p.m.
