Wichita - No. 24 Wichita State Shockers (15-6) blanked the Air Force Falcons (11-12), 6-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Eck Stadium.
Five Shockers pitchers combined to shutout the Falcons on Wednesday led by freshman right-hander Zach Beringer (1-1) who started and went 3.2 innings to earn the victory. He scattered four hits and struck out five batters.
Cameron White (0-1) tossed four innings and allowed three runs with two earned on six hits to take the loss for Air Force.
Johnny Coy went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI and Preston Springer finished 2-for-4 with a solo home run for Wichita State.
Wichita State went on the scoreboard first with two runs in the second inning. Singles by Coy and Don Lambert followed by a walk to Zach Stucky loaded the bases for the Shockers, a fielder's choice and an error on a groundball by Walker Davidson plated Coy and Lambert.
Coy added another run for Wichita State, 3-0 with his single to right to score Kevin Hall, who doubled to lead off the third.
A solo blast by Shocks designated hitter Springer pushed their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning.
Tyler Grimes added a two-RBI double in the eighth inning to give the Shockers a 6-0 lead on the Falcons.
The Shockers will next be in action when they travel to Oregon for four games against the Oregon Ducks, March 25-27 followed by a trip to Hawaii to take on the University of Hawaii for four games, March 30-April 2. Next home games for Wichita State will be April 5-6 against Alcorn State.
