The Buejays scored a run in the seventh to tie it up at two and threatened to send the game into extra innings. Joe Servais doubled in the left-center gap, Brett Mieras sacrificed the runner to third and Michael Lam brought in the tying run with a rip up the middle.
T.J. Roemmich led off the CU ninth with a single and moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Lam. Elliot Soto reached on a fielder’s choice, as Roemmich advanced to third. Steve Winkelmann had the game winning hit, a single to centerfield that scored two.
Creighton manufactured its first run on a Nick Nordgren single, wild pitch and two fielder’s choices. UNI got that back quickly with a solo homerun by Brett Featherston in the bottom of the second.
The Panthers took a temporary lead when Chris Lopez doubled in Dane Embury, giving UNI a 2-1 lead in the third.
Creighton’s Zak Moore and Pat Venditte combined for the game. Venditte picked up the win with a scoreless four innings to finish up the game.
Creighton plays the loser of Wichita State and Southern Illinois at 11 a.m., Friday morning.
