BSB: Eighth Inning Comeback Propels Shockers

WICHITA, Kan.- Tanner Dearman hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to push Wichita State past Air Force 3-2 on Tuesday night at Eck Stadium.

Albert Minnis grabbed the win for Wichita State to move his record to 2-1 on the season. The Shocker pitching staff of Minnis, A.J. Ladwig and Brandon Peterson only allowed one hit on the night.

Johnny Coy went 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run and a walk. Casie Gillaspie also went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Air Force got on the board in the fourth inning when Seth Kline hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field to plate Garrett Custons and put the Falcons up 1-0.

The Shockers evened the game at 1-1 in it’s half of the fourth. As the second batter of the inning, Casey Gillaspie doubled down the right field line. Then after Tyler Baker and Johnny Coy walked, Erik Harbutz was hit by a pitch that plated Gillaspie.

An error by Dayne Parker in the seventh inning helped score Kline to put Air Force up 2-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, Johnny Coy hit his first home run of the season over the left-center field wall with one out to tie the game at 2-2. In the next at-bat Harbutz walked then moved to second on a single by Micah Green. Dearman then hit a ball through the left side to plate Harbutz.

The Shockers will play the last game of the series against Air Force on Wednesday at Eck Stadium. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
