The Wildcats would take a 2-0 lead before the Shockers could manage to score. With two outs in the third, back-to-back singles by Adam Muenster and Derek Bunker put two on board. A fly ball popped out of Danny Jackson’s glove and allowed Muenster to score on the error.
Reliever Kyle Touchatt struck out Eli Rumler before hitting Nate Tenbrink with a pitch in the top of the fourth. Brett Scott then singled in the right-center gap and a Tyler Ruch fielder’s choice drove in a run.
Starter Tyson Fugett and the WSU bullpen kept the Wildcats close, scattering eight hits over the nine innings and allowing only one earned run five walks, while striking out 11. The Shockers’ bats never got hot, however, as
Fugett (0-1) was charged was with the loss, giving up one unearned run in three innings. Chase Bayuk improved to 4-4 on the season and Daniel Edwards earned his 10th save of the year.
Andy Dirks was responsible for two of the Shockers’ five hits. Bunker was the only Wildcat with a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a walk.
