WICHITA, Kan. – Travis Banwart, a junior right-handed pitcher on the baseball team, was named this week’s T-Mobile WSU Athlete of the Week.

Banwart was key in the Shockers Saturday win over the Richmond Spiders. He pitched 7.1 scoreless innings and allowed just four hits, while walking one and striking out 10. Of the five baserunners he allowed, only two reached scoring position and during the fifth and sixth innings he struck out four-straight Spider hitters. Banwart also struck out Richmond's leading hitter four times in the contest.  

After losing his first start of the year, Banwart has now won three-straight and lowered his ERA to 2.21.

Wichita State will be back in action this weekend with a three-game homestand against the Penn State Nittany Lions. The first game is set for Fri., March 9 at 3 p.m.
