WICHITA, Kan.  --  Wichita State's Track and Field Pentathlete's competed Tuesday with newcomer Marteisha Caines winning the event with 3,736 points in the Heskett Center Indoor Track and Field Facility.

Caines' point total was good enough for seventh in Wichita State's Top 10 Indoor Pentathlon list, while Gavyn Yetter's 3,646 points didn't beat her personal best and Top 10 mark of 3,691, but did put her in second place.

Newcomer Claudia Rojo collected 3,615 points which put her just out of WSU's all-time top 10. 

In the first event of the day, Breanne Borman won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.77, followed by Emily Doffing, who competed unattached in a time of 8.80. Caines finished third in 8.81.

Borman also won the high jump with a height of 5-7.25 (1.71) ahead of Caines' height of 5-6 (1.68). WSU newcomer Claudia Rojo was third with a height of 5-3.75.

Yetter's win in the shot put moved her into first place in the overall standings through three events as she threw 39-7.25 feet. Borman was second with a throw of 39-4 and Hays was third at 38-0.25.

In the long jump, Yetter's jump of 17-9.75 won the event, while Caines was second with a jump of 17-7 feet. Rojo was third with a jump of 17-2.75. Borman fouled all three attempts and ended with no mark.

In the final event of the day, the 800 meters, Rojo won with a time of 2:23.86, Yetter was second (2:25.06) and Caines was third (2:26.12).

Nine Shockers competed in the event, including two unattached, Doffing and Lauren Rowland.

Wichita State's men also competed in a two-day intrasquad Heptathlon, an event that will count toward the annual Intrasquad Meet set for 10:30 a.m., on Friday, with the field events. Intrasquad running events begin at 1 p.m., Friday.
