WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State's track and field team will take a full squad — 32 men and 42 women athletes — to the Arkansas Spring Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
Men's and women's teams competing this weekend include: Arkansas, Arkansas Baptist, Barton County, Central Missouri, Drake, Friends University, Iowa Central, Missouri State, Oklahoma State, South Dakota, Tulsa and Wichita State. Arkansas is ranked No. 3 on both the men's and women's side.
The meet begins Friday with the multi-events at noon, starting with the Heptathlon 100 meter hurdles followed by the Decathlon 100 meters. Events competed in the Heptathlon on Friday following the 100 meter hurdles are the high jump, shot put and 200 meters at approximately 4:10 p.m. The men follow up the 100 meters with the long jump, shot put, high jump and 400 meters set for approximately 5:10 p.m.
On Saturday the women complete the Heptathlon with the long jump at 11 a.m., followed by the javelin and 800 meters, while the men complete the Decathlon beginning at 10 a.m., with the 110 meter hurdles, followed by the discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1,500 meters set for 3:30 p.m.
To highlight those competing who have All-Time WSU Top 10 bests,
Gavyn Yetter, who has the fourth-best point total (5,447) in WSU history will compete in the Heptathlon, as will Marteisha Caines, who has the ninth-best total (5,150).
On Friday afternoon the men's hammer throw begins at 3:30 p.m. followed by the men's hammer and the women's discus.
Tyra Bickham will compete in the discus after throwing the fifth-best distance in school history last week at Emporia State (157-4/47.97m).
Saturday's running events begin at 3 p.m.
For the women who have Top 10 bests, All-American
Nikki Larch-Miller will compete in the 100 meters, an event where she holds the school record at 11.38, as well as the 4x100 meter relay (44.30). Both records were set in 2015 as she sat out with injury in 2016.
Taylor Larch-Miller will compete in the 100 meter hurdles where she holds the second-best time in school history (13.19).
Rebekah Topham will run in the 1,500 meters, an event where she has the fourth-best time in WSU history (4:23.09). Also in the distance races,
Sidney Hirsch, who holds the eighth-best 3,000 meters (9:57.59) will run in the event.
In women's field events, WSU's three throwers (
Kelsey Slawson,
Jamesia Milton,
Meagan Williams) who hold a spot in the top 10 all-time throws will be competing in the shot put.
Kelsey Slawson's 47-10.5 in 2016 is the second best in history. In the discus,
Alex Adams will join Bickham. Adams holds the ninth-best discus throw at 147-2/44.86m. In addition, Milton, who holds the third-best hammer throw (199-0/60.67m) will compete.
Williams, who has the sixth-best javelin throw (151-1/46.05m) in history, and
Andrea Navarro, who has the ninth-best (145-7/44.37m) will compete in the javelin.
For the men,
Isaac Poe, who ran the ninth-best 400 meter hurdle time a year ago (52.55), will compete in the event Saturday.
In the high jump,
Garret Lynch, who holds the sixth-best height in school history (6-11.75/2.13m), will also compete as will
Aaron True, who holds the ninth-best javelin throw in school history (220-7/67.23m)
