WICHITA, Kan. - Ava Sliger tossed a complete game and Wichita State evened the series with Tulsa behind a 7-1 win Friday night at Wilkins Stadium.
Wichita State (20-15, 8-6) snapped a four-game losing streak on a chilly, windy night at the ballpark.
The Shockers pounded out 12 hits, including five Shockers with multiple.
Ausha Moore was 2-for-2 with three walks, a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Kammie Smith singled twice and drove in two runs.
Kinzey Woody,
Johnna Schroeder and
Mackenzie Rooney all tallied two hits apiece.
Trinity Allen was 1-for-2 with an RBI and three walks.
Sliger (5-1) went the distance, allowing just one run on four hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Tulsa didn't cross the plate until there were two outs in the top of the seventh.
Wichita State got the scoring started in the bottom of the first on back-to-back RBI singles from Smith and Schroeder to grab an early 2-0 lead.
The very next inning, Wichita State doubled its lead to 4-0 behind Moore's RBI double and Smith's second RBI single of the game.
Wichita State upped its lead to 5-0 in the fourth on a Tulsa error. The final two runs came in to score in the sixth from Allen's RBI single and Rooney's RBI groundout.
Tulsa broke up the shutout with two outs in the top of the seventh on an RBI single through the left side.
